Welcome to UKradon
Radon is a natural radioactive gas, which enters buildings from the ground and can cause lung cancer. A list of frequently asked questions can be found on the Health Protection Agency website.
We offer radon services for householders and employers. You can order:
- a risk report for a property
- radon detectors for your house or,
- (for employers) radon detectors for your workplace.
Risk reports and measurements provide important information for employers about their legal responsibilities for the Health and Safety of their own and visiting employees.
If your property is both residential and a workplace, e.g. nursing home or public house, use the links for workplaces.
Radon Risk Reports
This website allows you to obtain an estimate of the probability that an individual property in England and Wales is above the Action Level for radon. The standard charge for this service is £3.53 per property. The report is available instantly as a PDF and should be downloaded or printed before navigating away from the final page. Here is a free example report.A formal report which gives an estimate of the probability of an individual address exceeding the Action Level for properties in Scotland is now available following the publication of the atlas. The same information is available for free by consulting the definitive map of Scotland on the HPA website - click here for details.
You can pre-pay for between 10 and 500 credits if you feel you will use this website on a regular basis, to do so please register here. This will mean next time you visit, you can log-in and complete searches without filling in payment details again.
However for larger numbers of searches, please contact BGS for information on commercial licenses.
In order to use this website, you will need to know the address of a property, including its postcode. If you do not know the postcode, you can find it on the Post Office website. If you want to know the radon risk for a site without an address, contact BGS.
The report will tell you the estimated probability that this particular property is above the Action Level for radon, but the only way to find out whether it is in fact above or below the Action Level is to carry out a radon measurement in an existing property.
This information also provides an answer to one of the standard legal enquiries on house purchase in England and Wales, known as CON29 Standard Enquiry of Local Authority; 3.13 Radon Gas: Location of the Property in a Radon Affected Area.
